Remedy Description

"Saltbush (atriplex halimus is a branchy woody shrub native, to the

mediterrean area, North Africa, and southern europe. It is especially

common around the Jordan valley, in saline depressions and oases.

Saltbush is the primary food of the sand rat. People noticed, that when

sand rats switched from a diet rich in saltbush to standard rat chow,

they typically developed severe diabetes. Replacing the saltbush in the

diet brought about a quick reverdsal of the condition. Researchers

began investigating the possible therapeutic benefits for humans.

Studies conducted in Israel, which involved saltbush and human subjects,

have yielded good results in patients with type 2 diabetes. Blood

glucose levels and glucose tolerance improved. The dosage used in

human studies was 3 grams per day. Saltbush is rich in fiber, protein,

and numerous trace minerals, including chromium. Chromium works closely

with insulin in facilitating the uptake of glucose into cells."
