I was aquainted with 7song, founder and director of Northeast School of
Botanical Medicine, at a Rainbow Gathering in 1987. Shortly after I wrote him asking what I could do for acne I was having trouble with. This was his reply: Acne and many outward skin dis-harmonies (ie, pimples, or boils, etc.) are usually due to a liver dis-function. So by cleansing the liver and also treating any obvious pimples or blemishes, it can be brought into harmony. A focus could be the internal (the liver) affecting the external (blemishes). So, some foods impair the liver such as hot oily foods (those foods boiled in oil, especially old rancid oils often used in restaurants) (like french fries). Often, it is possible to feel if the food is nourishing (instead of de- nourishing) by just feeling your body as you handle and eat it. And some plants are very nourishing for the liver, such as dandelion roots. If you are familiar with dandelion and it is growing some place not near pollution (ie, on a highway or factory site or crowded parking lot) you can gather it yourself with a shovel (small shovel or pitch fork). Clean the roots with a brush (just the outside dirt). The roots are whitish. Cut off the green tops. Cut the roots into small pieces (diagonally exposes much of root properties, about 1/4 inch pieces) (they dry and cook well this way) and place about one handful to 2-3 cups of water in a pot. Bring the water to a boil (this is known as decoction) and let it simmer for 7 to 10 minutes. Pour and Enjoy. You can also roast the cut roots in an oven and they taste really fine. Do the same boil method. Drink 2 or 3 cups a day. It will help heal. |
